How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® works because of the power of its active ingredient, which works to reduce muscle movement in the treated areas. Because Botox® works to temporarily relax the muscles it treats, it is most commonly used to treat what we call “action wrinkles,” or wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions. These movements, such as frowning, squinting, and furrowing the brow, cause the fine lines and wrinkles our patients wish to treat. Just a single Botox® treatment can reduce the appearance of these wrinkles for up to four months at a time.
