Eyebrow Transplant FAQs

eyebrow hair loss

If you have lost your once-healthy and full eyebrows, have a faded brow tattoo or want a fuller eyebrow, an eyebrow transplant may help you. An eyebrow transplant is a type of hair transplant surgery that replaces hair loss and makes the eyebrows appear fuller.

If you’re considering an eyebrow transplant to improve the fullness of your eyebrows, you may have many questions in mind about this surgery.

Let’s discuss some frequently asked questions about eyebrow transplants, their possible answers, and where you can go for an outstanding eyebrow transplant in Seattle.

What is Eyebrow Transplant?

Eyebrow transplant is a hair transplant-like procedure that uses the follicular unit transplantation (FUT) or follicular unit excision (FUE) harvesting method to remove hair follicles from the scalp, which arethen placed in the eyebrows.

Once the brow skin heals after the surgery, the new eyebrow hair looks more pronounced, reducing the need to disguise thin or absent eyebrows with eyebrow pencils, brushes, and makeup.

What Causes Thinning or Loss of My Eyebrow Hair?

Many things, including medical conditions like alopecia areata or trichotillomania, can cause eyebrow hair loss. An injury that affects your skin, like scars or burns, can also cause your eyebrow hair to be thin or go absent.

Do Eyebrows Grow Longer Than Normal After an Eyebrow Transplant?

Since the hair graft used for eyebrow transplant is taken from your scalp, the new hair will continue to grow as it would if it were still present on your scalp – though it’s now on your eyebrows.

Therefore, you may have to regularly trim your eyebrow hairs to keep them at the length you want them to be.

Is an Eyebrow Transplant Procedure Painful?

Ideally, an eyebrow transplant procedure should not be painful as you’ll receive general or local anesthesia before the procedure. However, you may experience mild pain in your eyebrows as your skin heals, for which your hair transplant doctor will prescribe you pain medications.

How Long Does the Result of Eyebrow Transplant Last?

It won’t hurt to say that an eyebrow transplant is a long-term solution for thin or absent eyebrows. This means your result (new eyebrow hairs) can last a lifetime.

Are There Any Side Effects of Eyebrow Transplant?

Generally, an eyebrow transplant is considered a safe procedure. However, like any other cosmetic procedure, eyebrow transplant may also cause minor risks, such as:

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Infection
  • Scarring
  • Loss of feelings due to accidental nerve damage

The good news is that you can minimize the chances of these risks by carefully following post-op instructions.

What Is the Recovery Timeline for an Eyebrow Transplant?

Compared to other cosmetic surgeries, eyebrow transplants have a short recovery period. Within the first weeks following the eyebrow transplant, you should be able to return to work and do light activities. During this time, a thin crust will appear on your treatment area, which sheds after some time.

You can also resume your strenuous activities after several weeks at the discretion of your hair transplant doctor.

It may take about 6 to 12 weeks to notice new hairs in your eyebrows.
