Hair Transplant Surgery FAQs

How long do hair transplants last?

Hair transplants are generally a durable and long-term solution to hair loss. The transplanted hair follicles, taken from the back of your head where hair is resistant to balding, can continue to grow hair in their new location for many years. That being said, it is important to remember that maintenance treatments with non-surgical hair restoration is always recommended to continue achieving desired results.

Dr. Robert Niedbalski will be happy to provide you with a detailed maintenance plan following the success of your hair restoration surgery.

Is it painful to get hair transplant surgery?

We recognize that the thought of pain is a common concern for many considering hair transplant surgery. Rest assured, we prioritize your comfort. During the procedure, we use local anesthetics to ensure the process is as pain-free as possible. Post-surgery, our dedicated team will provide you with prescribed medication to manage any discomfort you might experience.

Dr. Niedbalski and his team take pride in offering detailed post-operative instructions tailored to your specific needs to not only ensure your comfort but also facilitate a swift and smooth recovery.

Can you still go bald after hair transplant surgery?

Yes, it is possible to experience temporary hair loss, often known as shock loss, after a hair transplant surgery. This is a normal part of the healing process where transplanted hairs are shed within 2-3 weeks post-surgery. However, this is a temporary phase, and the transplanted follicles typically begin to grow hair again once the healing process is complete.

While the transplanted hair from the donor area will not thin, the hair that is still in the thinning area may continue to miniaturize and eventually disappear.

Does surgical hair transplant look natural?

Yes, modern surgical hair transplants look very natural. New methods in hair restoration allow Dr. Niedbalski to minimize the appearance of scarring to enhance a more natural look. Also, advancements in transplanting follicular units have revolutionized the way we think about hair restoration. Instead of large clusters of follicles being transplanted, smaller or individual follicles are inserted into the treatment area, providing a natural-looking appearance.

How much rest is required after hair transplant surgery?

We understand that undergoing a hair transplant surgery can be a significant decision, and rest is an essential part of your recovery. Typically, most patients are able to return to work within 2-5 days after the procedure. Although you may feel well enough to resume regular activities sooner, we strongly recommend taking it easy for the first few days to ensure optimal healing.

How many grafts are needed for a full-head hair transplant?

The exact number of grafts needed varies greatly from person to person, typically ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 grafts for minor hair loss, while severe hair loss may require up to 4,000 grafts or more. This is determined by various factors, including the extent of your hair loss, your hair density, and the desired outcome.

Rest assured, Dr. Niedbalski will work closely with you, providing expert guidance tailored to your unique needs, ensuring optimal results that align with your expectations.

Is hair transplant surgery covered by insurance?

We understand that the financial aspect of hair restoration can be a concern. Although we do not accept insurance coverage for hair transplant surgery, we believe that everyone deserves to feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. Our team is committed to working with you to develop a payment plan that fits your budget, ensuring you can access the transformative power of hair restoration.
