If you are pursuing hair restoration through medically-safe hair transplant surgery, you are making a great decision. Your hair restoration physician has performed numerous successful surgical treatments and will inform you of the details pertinent to yours. In fact, here’s information on what to expect before your procedure.
One, You Will Have a Complimentary Consultation With Dr. Niedbalski
Having a one-on-one conversation about your hair restoration goals helps both you and your doctor determine what’s best for your health, your appearance, and even your peace of mind. Losing hair is a sensitive issue; treating it successfully is highly individualized. So, our patients benefit from knowing the details of their treatment plans well in advance of their treatments.
As such, Dr. Niedbalski will do a thorough review of your medical history and examine your areas of balding or thinning hair. He will diagnose the condition responsible for your hair loss and also propose ways to achieve a fuller, healthier head of hair.
In general, many people make good candidates for hair transplant surgery. One of the most essential things that helps patients is the density of hair at the donor site–typically on the back of the head near the nape of the neck. The more follicular units there are (groups of hair and sweat glands), the easier and more successful the harvest and transplantation process will be.
Additionally, your doctor will tell you if you will have FUE, or Follicular Unit Extraction, which removes groups of active hair follicles, or if you need FUT, or Follicular Unit Transplant, which removes a strip of scalp and individually harvests and transplants hair follicles.
You will discuss the details of your procedure beforehand and have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you like.
Two, You Will Set Aside a Day, Date And Time For Your In-office Procedure
You and the scheduling team will determine the best day, date, and time for your procedure, which will take place in its entirety at one of our fully staffed-clinics. Dr. Niedbalski personally will do your surgery and will give you full post-operative instructions as well.
Be sure to take an entire day off from work and family responsibilities. You will arrive at your scheduled time (wearing comfortable clothes) and be seated in one of our memory foam patient chairs. The donor area of your scalp will be measured and shaved, and then you will receive a local anesthetic to numb both the donor and recipient areas.
Three, You’ll Be Made Comfortable Throughout Your Treatment
Many of our patients feel less anxious when they take a mild oral sedative. This medication will not put you to sleep but will allow you to relax, watch TV, or listen to music. You may even doze off for a bit.
Rest assured, you will be fully monitored and comfortable during your surgery. Expect a bandage over the operated areas, and at home, you will continue with over-the-counter pain medications because your scalp will be sore for a few days.
Then, You Will See the Results
Most of our hair transplant patients see their transplanted follicles shed within two to four weeks. Then, renewed growth begins with full results in about two to four months. Some patients need another procedure or hair growth boosters to get the aesthetic effects they desire.
